On Sunday, December 3, His Grace Bishop Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Eastern America presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago.
Concelebrating with the guest hierarch were Protopresbyter Dr. Darko Spasojevic, Cathedral Dean, Presbyter Nikolaj Kostur, newly-appointed priest of the northern parish, and Deacons Nenad Jakovljevic and Theodore Sokolovic.
Speaking on the Gospel message for the 26th Sunday after Pentecost (Luke 12:16-21), Bishop Irinej taught the faithful that rich are those who are enriched by God, those who have God in them.
At the end of the service, His Grace introduced Fr. Nikolaj Kostur, whom he has known since Fr. Nikolaj was a child, and in the name of the Ruling Hierarch, His Grace Bishop Longin, Vladika Irinej gave Fr. Nikolaj the Holy Gospel Book, charging him with the duty of teaching the Word of God to the faithful entrusted to him.
Bishop Irinej’s visit to Chicago and liturgical celebration at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral was occasioned by the annual meetings of the Episcopal Council and Central Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America, which met here on November 30-December 2.
